What do you do when you feel like sh*t?
First off, sorry mom for the headline. Though it rhymes, saying “poo” just sounded dumb to me and we’re all adults.
You ever have one of those days that EVERYTHING goes south? Let me paint a picture: You’re brushing your teeth and you get toothpaste on the rug you just washed. Your car decides to have a flat on the day you’re already running late to a big meeting (and then you finally get to the meeting and it’s cancelled). You’ve been on hold forever, and beyond that, you’ve been on the phone with a customer service rep for whatever for an hour. And thennn, it seems as if your significant other is being extra irritating because you’re hangry (you haven’t eaten) so you’re just even more annoyed.
Drama. I know.
Whatever the case may be, you just have one of them dayssss *cues Monica. Well, from Monday, Sept. 16 up until today (Wednesday, Sept. 18), I’ve been having the worsttt luck. From multiple trips to the Dept. of Motor Vehicles and being locked inside a parking garage to actually being on hold for more than an hour and a rock chipping my windshield. And honestly, at this point, I’m not even mad anymore. I’ve accepted the fact that this is just my turn to participate in a series of unfortunate events.
But when your day is gross, what do you do? Like seriously. Especially if you don’t feel like being bothered, or your car really is crippled and you can’t move.
Lately, listening to trap or really hood music gets me out of my funk. I can curse and rap about drugs I’ve never sold and women I’ve never met, and I get in this gangsta mood. I end up laughing at myself cause it’s like girl, you’re from the burbs.
Taking walks has helped too. My new company gave me a Fitbit, so meeting tiny fitness goals helps me feel a little better.
People often suggest talking about your feelings, but depending on the situation, talking about it might make me angry or sad all over again. And depending on who I’m talking to (like I just called to vent) an unsolicited opinion could make waters even murkier. Spending money is cool too, until I check my Amex.
Though I did go off on one person this week, I think in the back of my mind I know that my situation could be worse. Thinking positively like, “at least I have a vehicle to go to the DMV in” or “maybe God is keeping me from something” has definitely calmed my spirit a few times.
But to this post’s headline, I really do want to know what you do to get yourself back in a positive place after some bull. Sharing is caring, and your suggestion may help someone else (like me. I am someone).
