Can I Make My Hair Grow Faster?
I’ve never had longgg hair, but my hair has always been thick. Also, I’ve never had a perm. The only chemicals I’ve had were color.
In high school and throughout college, I would faithfully flat iron my hair every week. I was cool with my damaged hair lol. But one day I superrr damaged my hair – flat ironing on 450 degrees – to the point that when water hit it, it looked like I had a perm. I would even comb my hair and have immense shedding. I didn’t put two and two together that I had heat damage, so I made an appointment with a dermatologist to determine what was up. After a quick consultation, he basically said, “Nothing is wrong with you. Leave your hair alone, take some biotin and wear a wig.” He did not lie.
I didn’t want to “big chop”, so I started going to the salon once a month for treatments and trims. While doing that, I would wear wigs and other protective styles. Those steps slowly started nursing my hair back to health and that’s when I started to see the revival of my hair.
PRESENT DAY
My hair is pretty healthy. I gave myself slight heat damage again messing with the Silver Bird blow dryer last year, but it’s nowhere near as bad as it was in 2015. I haven’t flat ironed my hair since November 2019 and don’t plan to until who tf knows.
My personal hair goal is to hit bra strap length, all while maintaining the overall health of my hair. The American Academy of Dermatology says that hair grows about 1/2 inch per month on average. That's about 6 inches per year for the hair on your head. Since the beauty world has a solution for everything, I want to see if I can speed up the growth process by taking Hairfinity vitamins and using this oil for two months.
Many of you have probably heard about Hairfinity and that it helps promote healthy hair growth. This oil, however, includes castor oil, fenugreek seeds and MSM powder, all of which stimulate growth, thicken hair and reduce hair loss. If I take them both together, I’m hoping I’ll come out of quarantine looking like Rapunzel.
Check below for my before, and I’ll be back soon with my update! I’ll be rocking protective styles in the meantime.
