Update | Can I Make My Hair Grow Faster?
Anddd … we’re back. If you haven’t read part one, do that. Some things will make more sense.
I know you’ve been sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for my hair growth results, so my bad for the delay. With everything going on in America right now I just didn’t find it to be the right time to post. But we’re here now, so let’s dive in.
MONTH ONE
May started out with me getting a trim and braids, and then leaving my hair alone for the most part. Every morning I would wake up and oil my scalp in an effort to avoid making my pillow greasy at night (btw, that didn't work). I really liked the smell of the oil — it gave me tea vibes. At about week three, I also began putting a leave-in on the length of my hair just so it wouldn’t be dry, and then applying some of the oil to my braids as well.
As far as the vitamins, I would take them with lunch or dinner, depending on when I remembered. You’re supposed to take them twice a day, so I just took them both at the same time because why not. I didn’t experience any breakouts, and I’m already hairy so I can’t say that hair grew on my arms or something because I can’t tell. Shrugs.
I do feel like I noticed a little bit of growth, but because I didn’t take a before picture when the braids were first installed I had nothing to base my observation on. After I noticed my hair was “growing” I decided to take pictures to compare on a weekly basis — even though I had all of three weeks left. Ha! The final week I had them in was rough for me, so I didn’t take any pics. I just took them out.
At the same time, I was wondering could I attribute this growth to the oil or to the pills? Hmmm…
MONTH TWO
So this is where the fun begins. Because I ordered the oil and loveddd it so much, I decided to reorder and try other products from the line and see if that would help stimulate hair growth. (Please note: I purchased this stuff with my own coins and they’re very inexpensive!) The oil this time smelled different and not in a good way. But! This month I started using the Hair & Scalp Repair Cream and Chebe Powder Paste on my hair every 3-5 days. The chebe is supposed to help with length and moisture retention, and the paste I purchased included ingredients such as kokum and mango butter, and carrot oil, just to name a few. I wasn’t really too fond of the scent. It reminded me of visiting a home of someone who smokes cigarettes, and it lingers even after washing. The application process was kind of messy: you mix the chebe with your favorite oil on damp hair. And because chebe seeds are very fine, it was also difficult to get them out of my hair when washing. (And then washing my hair every few days was starting to get annoying.) I did notice my hair shed less, but I decided this was a product I didn’t want to incorporate into my routine when I finished the container. The repair cream was cool though. It’s supposed to stimulate growth and strengthen and repair the hair shaft with ingredients such as vitamin E, hemp seeds and jojoba oil, again, to name a few.
(Pictured below is how I wore my hair with the chebe in it and my bathroom rug with the little chebe seed things.)
I also dabbled in rice water! I’ve used rice water on my hair before, and if you haven’t heard of it you should do some research and see if it makes sense for you. It’s lowkey a protein treatment, but claims to speed hair growth as well. Asian cultures have been using rice water for years to enhance their skin, body and hair. Regarding hair, they apply fermented rice to their tresses and experience growth, shine and increased health.
For the last week of this challenge I sprayed my hair with rice water every day to see if I’d notice any growth. The first day I used it in conjunction with the remaining chebe paste. (And let me just say, fermented rice water is funky. It literally smells like baby vomit. You can add lavender oil or orange peels to cover the smell, but I just had to share that it’s funky.) I left it on for about 3 days and then washed it out. After that, I sprayed my hair every day with the rice water until my bottle was empty. I made sure to moisturize my hair with a leave-in throughout this process to avoid damaging my hair, but again, do your research if you do decide to try this.
After allll of that, I went and got a trim. But the way sis took the pic this time I could not tell if my hair grew or not -_- It was a little past the chair at the hair salon, but I have no idea if my hair grew lmao. I did end up flat ironing my hair though and the results are below. It looks a little longer than it did last year though! I’ll try this again later and see if I can get ya’ll some REAL results.
Stay safe!
