I GOT A PUPPY!
First of all — OMG.
So here’s the scoop…
When COVID first popped up, I decided I was sick of being alone and wanted a dog. (SN: If you follow my IG stories, you’ve seen Cocoa Chanel, but she was a family pet and resides in MI. While I wish she could have come with me, most apartments don’t accept Chow Chows because they are deemed aggressive! #Falseforme) I thought I wanted a pomsky, but my apartment complex crushed that dream by banning huskies. So one day I’m scrolling on IG and stumble upon the cutessstttt bear-faced micro poodle. So boom. Now I want that. I was researching day and night trying to find a local breeder and it wasn’t working. I found one in Detroit, but let me assure you that I will never pay $8k for a dog. Luckily my wonderful mother decided to jump in and assist and she found Teacups & Toys, a Pet Boutique in Birmingham, MI.
After speaking with a woman at the boutique, she told me that I don’t want anything micro because — in summary — it’s work. Sis didn’t have to tell me twice. Buttttt, there was one other breed I was interested in — the maltipoo (maltese/poodle mix). I liked this dog because it was cute (obvi), hypoallergenic, apparently easy to train and is a great companion dog. She told me that a litter would be born soon, so I put a deposit down and the rest is pretty much history. (Jk, there’s more.)
The puppies were born on June 6, 2020, and I had to wait eight weeks before I could get my dog. Those eight weeks were kind of stressful because there was very limited communication. It was mainly me calling the boutique and asking for updates, but the owner was more than happy to answer any questions. On my last call, I explained that I live in the DMV and needed to know when I can actually get my pup so I could make travel arrangements. We scheduled an appointment for Aug. 3 so that I could come in and make my selection. August couldn’t come soon enough.
The first attempt…
Ya’ll. So Aug. 3 comes and I was literally super pressed. Woke up bright and early, made breakfast, rushed my brother and mom so we wouldn’t be late….
We’re driving, having a blast, pull up, and this man was looking at me like I was MJ’s ghost doing the moonwalk when I told him I had an appointment to see the litter. He had completely forgot about my appointment and lowkey didn’t even have the dogs. Apparently the breeder had to push stuff back. So I’m like okayyyyyy, I live in another state. When can I see the dogs? I was advised to come back the next day at the same time. Very bummed, I hopped off in the Rari and waited for the next day.
The next day…
My brother and I went to check out the dogs and I was like finally! When we walked in he had them sitting in the window and they were so tiny and cute! My brother and I played with two of them for about 30 minutes and then I came to a decision. While I wish I could have taken my fur-ever friend with me that day, he needed to stay with the owner for another week so he could get acclimated to home life and some other stuff. As soon as I left the boutique I screamed in excitement. The countdown to get my dog began — again.
The owner called me on Thursday with an update to let me know my puppy had been to the vet and was sleeping through the night. Because of this, I could pick up my lil baby on Saturday. Ahhhhhhh! :))))))))
I went back that Saturday morning and the co-owner gave me the most detailed overview of how to care for my pup. They gave me the dog’s medical records, a nice welcome home gift, and I was then able to purchase the dog’s food. As soon as I left the boutique, EVERYBODY outside was going nuts about how cute my dog is. I’m like I know! And now I FINALLY have my dog!
Sooo….meet Shiloh! I came up with this name because it translates to “peace” and your girl needs some. Shiloh is a boy, and I loved him because he was super fluffy and had a more laid back temperament. I drove to Michigan to get him because I’m like idk this dog, and if he embarrasses me on a flight we’re going to have problems; but so far he’s been sooo good in the car! I got him a doggy water bottle, blanket and car seat so he could travel comfortably and I guess it’s working. I’m still in MI and will be going home eventually. lol We’re still in the training phase, but I’m excited to begin my life as a dog mom. (The boutique has called me every day to check in which I appreciate too btw.) Moving forward, if I can’t bring my puppy, I ain’t coming.
Any way, I know this blog was a little longer than usual but I hope you enjoyed it! If you have any questions about my dog or the process, just hit me. And speaking of, you can follow Shiloh’s shenanigans on Instagram at _helloshiloh. If you’re as obsessed with him as I am, head over there because there are more pics.
XO,
Aja
